Goal: The Santa Cruz County College and Career Collaborative (S5C) works to ensure that all students graduate high school prepared for college and career. S5C partners with TK-12 schools and institutions of higher education to provide support for administrators, counselors, and teachers.

School Counselor Network

The Counselor Network is a group of school counselors who come together to learn about and discuss items or relevant topics of interest or concern. Guest speakers and facilitators attend as appropriate. Topics are determined by the group and voted on in each meeting or by survey.
November 17 topic: Supporting Students Mental Health Needs: School Counseling and Collaborations with County Mental Health and Intervention Strategies
This session is designed to bring together behavioral health specialists and school intervention professionals from across the county to discuss the questions you have in your daily work. Topics will include: Accessing resources for specific mental health situations and supporting students upon school re-entry.
School Counselor Collaborative
Quarterly in October, January, April, and August
Counselors in this collaborative will keep the Santa Cruz County School Counselor Handbook current and relevant- The Handbook is a tool for any school counselor outlining basic content for each grade level, complete with sample curriculum and pre and post data collection
Subcommittee of K-12 counselors
Grading Action Research Teams
All team members agree to participate for 2 years. 4 half-day planning sessions per year and one or two monthly planning meetings within each team including one monthly meeting with an S5C mentor.
Teams agree to implement at least three of the approved grading strategies and engage fully in data collection and sharing of data
Teams of teachers and (at least one) administrator from school sites

Develop the capacity of key district/site administrators, teachers, parents and students to facilitate conversations around grading practices. Investigate current district and school grading practices including grading audits around consistency/inconsistency within same subject. Agree upon equitable and consistent grading practices at the course, department, site, or district level.
